Art Dawn of Creation BacksideThis artwork was all about the front side … until it wasn’t. This picture represents a culmination of 16 hours of work with a new material. It was made of pigmented epoxy resin which gives the effect of enamel without the use of high temperatures. The resin was applied to a sheet of glass. Lovely swirls appeared as a pencil was dragged through the medium.

As the layers of the viscous substance dried, they slowly continued to ooze and merge into nearby neighboring colors. It was a wonder to watch. If you’ve ever made a marble cake, or been intrigued watching that first drop of cream hit the surface of the coffee, you know know the feeling.

Once the blue and white resin reached their final resting spot, it was clear the face was deformed. Pink resin was added in the background and was texturized with plastic wrap in an attempt to “save it” (no pun intended). Now it was time to quit and go to bed. Disappointed.

The next morning it didn’t look any better. Cleanup included throwing the used pencils and tubs of resin residue in the trash. The newspaper used as protection on the worktable had stuck to the glass. When it was peeled off the glass, this!Art Dawn of Creation 1

My inner landscape was in a vulnerable place the weekend this piece was made, and the outcome was a miraculous gift to my soul.
