Home/Trees
  • This piece was made with bits of wet abraded plants and flowers dragged across watercolor paper. Watercolor washes were applied as well as the use of India ink. A light spray of  bleach provided an airy texture. It originally began as trees leaning into a rainbow, but it was suggested to turn it upside down as it resembles an idyllic scene near water.
  • This was created using bits from the artist's "pricker bush" plant and petals from the Chinese fringe flower bush. No additional coloration was added, all pigments are straight from nature. A sense of growth and tranquility were obtained with the selective use of India ink.
  • This piece went through some evolution. It was made during a summer morning when the plant petals still retained lots of moisture. The petals of red roses, dianthus, camellia, and leaf bits were pounded and the wet remains were dragged across the page. Watercolor and India ink refined the idea of the wind swirling about the day.
  • Initially made with pigments from bits of smashed red rose petals that exuded purple pigment, the Tree of Life's layers are outlined and negative space is defined with India ink. A watercolor enhanced design and bright final movement to the piece with a particularly interesting root structure.
